JSON guide
Explore what’s in a JSON file.
Read JSON as a document, explore collections as datasets, and follow nested values in context.
Beyond pretty-printing
A pretty-printer makes braces readable. It does not explain which array is the useful dataset or how a nested record relates to its parent. Unwrap opens JSON documents with a table of contents and expandable sections. Recognized collections are also available as datasets in Cards, Table, and Structure. You can drill into supported nested lists and objects while keeping their source context.
Three steps to explore JSON
01
Open the file
Choose a `.json` file directly, or open a ZIP that contains one or more JSON files.
02
Choose a view
Read JSON as a document, or open a detected collection in Cards, Table, or Structure.
03
Follow nested values
Use Cards or Table to reach a nested list or object, then inspect its child view and breadcrumb back to the parent.
Common questions
Do I need to paste JSON into a website?
No. Choose the file from your device. Unwrap reads it in your browser without sending its contents to Unwrap servers.
Can I open JSON inside a ZIP?
Yes. Open the ZIP and use Files to find JSON documents and datasets. See open a ZIP data export.
Can I inspect nested objects and lists?
Yes. Open a nested value from a card or table to inspect its contents. Use the breadcrumbs to return to the parent record.
