CSV guide
See what’s in each CSV column
Unwrap shows the type, missing values, range, and common values for each column.
Start with a familiar table
Imagine a small order export:
order_id,total,status
1042,49.90,paid
1043,,pending
1044,19.00,paid
The total column has one missing value. The status column has two different values, and paid is the most common. Unwrap collects these details for every column, so you do not have to count them by hand.
What you can check
01
Type
See whether a column looks like an identifier, amount, date, category, or another type.
02
Missing and distinct
Check how many values are empty and how many different values the column contains.
03
Range and common values
Review the smallest and largest values, or see which values appear most often.
What to look for
- A type that looks wrong. A price may have been read as text because some rows contain currency symbols or other characters.
- More missing values than expected. An important field such as
customer_idmay be empty in part of the export. - A surprising range. A negative quantity or an unusually large amount may need a closer look.
- Unexpected categories. Values such as
Paid,paid, andPAIDare counted separately.
Open the Table or Cards view when you want to see the original rows behind these results.
Detected types are suggestions
Unwrap looks at the column name and its values to choose a useful label. The label helps you understand the data, but it may not match the meaning used by the system that created the CSV.
For example, a numeric account number may look like an ordinary number even though you would never add it up. Check a few rows when the distinction matters.
Read the column results in context
Numbers and dates can show ranges; repeated values can show which entries occur most often. When you see Sample, these results cover the loaded rows. Select Load full file if you need them for the complete CSV.
Common questions
Does Unwrap check every row?
It checks every loaded row. If you see the Sample label, select Load full file when you need results for the complete CSV.
Why do I see sample values instead of common values?
Columns with many different values may not have a useful list of common values. Unwrap shows a few examples instead.
Does an empty string count as missing?
Empty cells can appear as missing values. Codes such as N/A, unknown, or -1 may need separate attention because they can look like ordinary text or numbers.
